Lewis Shepherd, CTO of Microsoft’s Institute for Advanced Technology in Governments, was the keynote speaker for the December meeting.

During the session, Lewis Shepherd spoke about the Microsoft cloud, and how Microsoft is spending $9.5 billion on research this year on the new paradigm of distributed computing.

Earlier this week, Vivek Kundra, the Federal Chief Information Officer at the White House, announced deadlines for the federal government to become open, transparent, and participatory.

Microsoft is responding to Kundra’s challenge with a wide range of initiatives, including Windows Azure, SharePoint Server 2010, and the Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS).

During the session, Mr. Shepherd discussed the flexibility that BPOS offers to customers that use Microsoft products. He mentioned Azure as a scalable hosting environment that allows federal and commercial organizations to take advantage of cloud computing. He also talked about how SharePoint 2010 allows for secure collaboration in a scalable environment.

“Lewis gave great insight on Microsoft’s vision to deliver technology that supports cloud computing,” said Chris Hornbecker, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of SolutionsDevelopers. “As a Gold Microsoft Partner, we are excited to be aligned with these innovative technologies, building a new breed of solutions around service oriented architectures.”

The Technology Leadership Roundtable, hosted by SolutionsDevelopers, provides a monthly forum for technology leaders and high-impact guest speakers to discuss trends driving information technology decisions and adoption issues for commercial and federal markets. Each event is moderated by SolutionsDevelopers’ John Gilroy, “The Computer Guy”, a well-known local radio personality and speaker.

Based in Reston, Virginia, SolutionsDevelopers is an award-winning Microsoft Gold Partner that helps organizations achieve business objectives with expert application development services and collaboration solutions for the federal sector, commercial and association industries. The company’s innovative approach and solution acceleration framework, ARMATURE, allows for business analysts and developers to move from ideas to solutions faster than traditional software development.
